Simple Steps to Enroll

Enrollment Steps for New Students:

1.A student new to Nelnet creates a Nelnet account, defining a Nelnet username and password.

Visit https://mycollegepaymentplan.com/carnegie and select “Enroll Today,” then “Create a Username and Password”. The username must be unique across the entire set of Nelnet login users.  Students therefore may not be able to use their Andrew ID as their Nelnet username.  Once the Nelnet username/password is created, it can be used every semester to login into Nelnet to set up a new payment plan.

2.Once the student has created their Nelnet Account, the student can then add parents and other payers as “Authorized users.” Click on “Add an Authorized Party” to do so.The Authorized users will then receive an invite allowing them to set up their own Nelnet username and password. When setting up their first Nelnet plan, Authorized users must wait to receive an invite from the student.  Do not attempt to skip this step, and enter their own name (not the student’s) for their authorized account. In subsequent semesters, Authorized users can just login using their Nelnet username and password, and will not need an invite.

3.Once logged in, the student or Authorized user can set up a payment plan for the student. They select “Set Up a Payment

Plan”. At this point, they will be prompted for a Student ID.  This value MUST match the student’s Carnegie Mellon Andrew ID exactly. The Andrew ID is the portion of the student’s campus email that precedes “@andrew.cmu.edu.”  For example, with an email of  [email protected], the Andrew ID is mmenis. Again, this value must be entered accurately. It is how your payment plan is linked to a specific Carnegie Mellon student.  Do not guess at this value.  Enter it accurately.

4.When setting up a payment plan, remember that Annual Insurance plans are available in the fall and only to graduate students attending both fall and spring semesters.  No one else should set up an Annual Insurance payment plan.  Your annual payment plan will be terminated if you do not meet the stated requirements.
